How to use the Site Builder

A step-by-step guide for customers who already have the Site Builder in one of their seats.

This guide shows you how to run the Site Builder, what to type, and how to read what it sends back. To see what it checks and which plans include it, read the Site Builder page.

Before you start

  • Your business details: business name, trade, city and state, phone, email, and the services you offer, separated by commas.
  • The domain you want to use. It does not need to be live yet, but you must own it before launch.
  • Your logo as an SVG, PNG or JPG up to 2MB. If you do not have one, you can choose Generate one for me.
  • A choice between Host with BuzFind and Host it yourself. Hosting it yourself needs a host that runs Node.js 20 or newer.

Step by step

  1. Click Site Builder in the left menu. Under Pick a tier, choose a package and click Start build. For E-Commerce, click Contact us to plan your store instead.
  2. Fill in the five steps: About you, Options, Starting style, The feel and Finish. Then click Pay and start my preview.
  3. Open My website builds and click your order to see its status. We also email you when the preview is ready.
  4. When it says Preview ready for you to check, click Open Preview and look at every page in the new tab.
  5. Click Make changes to ask for edits, or Approve and publish when you are happy. Nothing goes live until you approve.
  6. After launch, add the DNS records shown on your order page at the company where you bought your domain.

What to type when you ask for changes

Copy one of these requests and change the details to match your business.

“On the home page, change the main heading to: Same-day drain cleaning in Yourtown”
Type this in the What would you like to change? box after you click Make changes.

“Add a new service called Water heater repair with this description: We repair and replace gas and electric water heaters.”
Use this when a service is missing from your preview.

“On the about page, replace the main photo with a photo of: a plumber working under a kitchen sink”
Use this when a stock photo does not fit your business.

“On the contact page, change the paragraph that starts with We are here to say: Call us any time, day or night.”
Use this to rewrite one paragraph. Quote its first few words so we find the right one.

How to read the results

  • Your order page shows one status at a time: Order received, Building your preview, Preview ready for you to check, Publishing your site, then Your site is live or Zip delivered.
  • After you send changes, the page says We are working on your changes. It updates on its own, so you can leave it open.
  • If you see We hit a snag, click Try again. If it fails again, email us with your order number.

What to do next

  • Once your site is live, click Visit my site and test your phone and contact links on your own phone.
  • If we host your site, use Edit my site text to change your words any time. We rebuild the site with your new text in a few minutes.
  • If you host it yourself, click Download zip after you approve and put the files on your Node.js host.
  • Then check your new site with your agents. For example, type Run a full site audit on yourbusiness.com in the Dashboard chat.

Tips

  • Be exact in change requests: name the page, the section and the new words. The clearer you are, the closer the result.
  • Put all your changes in one request, so you wait for one rebuild instead of several.
  • On The feel step, paste a site you like under Have a website you love? We use its colors, fonts and layout as a start, never its text or images.
  • Make changes only works before launch. After launch, change words with Edit my site text, and ask our team for anything else.

Questions about using it

Can I close the order page while my preview is built?

Yes. We email you when the preview is ready, and the order page shows the latest status when you come back.

Where do I find my order later?

Click My website builds in the left menu. Each order there opens its own page with the preview, the buttons and the status.

What if my domain check says Already in use or Parked?

If you own the domain, you can still use it. You point it to your new site with DNS records after launch. If you do not own it, pick another domain or buy it first.
